[VIDEO] REVIEW: Wychwood Extricator 5000FD

RRP: £79.99 | www.wychwoodcarp.co.uk

With a silver spool, a lightweight magnesium body and smooth wooden handle, the Wychwood Extricator's looks and features instantly grab you.

Although its compact shape makes it ideal for any tactics that involve holding your rod for longer periods (such as stalking and surface fishing), it also has a large spool capable of holding 300m of 0.28mm line and casting long distances.

For many carp anglers, especially those who don't fish at huge range, it could be all the reel they ever need.

Wychwood says one complete turn of the micro-pitch multi-disc drag takes it from free-spool tension to a fighting drag, but we found it to be slightly more than this on our sample.

However, the drag is exceptionally smooth and appears built to last.

Looks, performance and value combine in the Extricator

Not only does it perform well, it looks the part too. It boasts clean, understated retro looks with a black magnesium body, chrome-coloured spool and classic dark wooden handle.

As well as making a cracking baby big-pit carp reel, the Extricator's size also makes it perfect for targeting other specimen fish such as barbel, tench and bream.

For under £80 it's an impressive package.
