REVIEW: Sonik Vader X Spod Reel [VIDEO]

A rugged spod reel already loaded with braid and under £50? The Vader X might just be ideal...

Sonik Vader X spod reel review

RRP: £49.99 | www.soniksports.com

  • We like: Hassle-free spodding straight from the box
  • We dislike: Not a lot!

Loading braided line (any line, let's be honest!) to your reels can be a right pain, so if you want a ready-to-use solution then the Vader X Spod Reel, with 300m of 20lb braid already in place, is ideal.

The guys at Sonik told us they spent a lot of time getting the loading process just right, and it's clear it was worth it. The braid sits perfectly on the spool and practically begs you to tie on a shockleader and get going.

The ready-loaded braid is impeccably done

When you consider not only the cost of braid but the time and effort it takes to load it, this sub-£50 package looks pretty incredible.

The reel itself does exactly what you need a spod reel to do. It feels tough and well built, and cranks 1.1m of line per turn of the handle.

Just tie on a shockleader and go!

There are five ball bearings, plus one in the bail-arm roller, for a smooth feel, and the wooden handle is a nice touch on such a utilitarian tool.

The true test of any workhorse reel is its longevity, and we can't comment on that yet, but even if you end up buying two of these over a few years then you'll still get value for money.
