Mark Parker reports on life with Avid’s most luxurious bed...
As a long-term bad back sufferer – having slipped two discs many years ago – I have always found it difficult and very painful sleeping on bedchairs.
That is until now.
Having used the Avid Carp Rock Steady Benchmark Bedchair for a few months, I have found it to be incredibly comfortable with nights on the bank now being a joy, not a dread!
There are many reasons for its comfort. First up, there’s 2ins of memory foam in the sumptuous mattress, and then there’s its Lateral Sleep System Design, which means it lies totally flat.
However, the biggest plus point is the Lumbar Region Support System. This see the canvas of the chair bound under the central part, rather than just being bound around the edges. This prevents sagging, which relieves the lower-back pain.
Available in two sizes – 76ins x 28ins and the larger Benchmark X at 85ins x 35ins – both beds feature easy-to-lock, fully adjustable legs and a Rapid Folding Mechanism with retaining strap.
The downside to this luxury is the weight and bulk. The Benchmark comes in at 12kg, while its bigger brother is 15kg and a bit of a handful on a barrow. It's no problem if you're a long-session angler, but those who like to roam, or who have small bivvies and brollies, may find the X model a bit too big.
That said, if you are in the market for a new bed, or you grin and bear your nights on the bank, your spine will definitely thank you for investing in one of these!
