In essence, the brilliantly named Carp Tarp is just a waterproof sheet, and it’s easy to be cynical, but delve a little deeper and you’ll find a very useful product.

It’s made from the same material Wychwood uses on its excellent HD MHR brollies, with the addition of a camo border, and folds up into a tiny little carry bag.

So far, so simple, but it’s the little touches that make us like this product.

Measuring 2.5m by 1.5m, the Carp Tarp can be used as a standard bedchair cover or a barrow cover, but with the addition of a storm pole or two (not supplied) it can be turned into an ultra-lightweight shelter.

It comes with 5m of reflective cord to string it up with and a multitude of fixing loops that give the Carp Tarp huge versatility. A central hanging point means you could even suspend it from a tree, for example.

There are storm-pole pockets in each corner, four heavy-duty pegs and a selection of removable and repositionable Velcro loops to secure it to your bedchair frame.

Now, you won’t be camping out under one of these in strong winds or freezing temperatures, but for those summer overnighters with the threat of rain, you might as well have one rolled up and ready to go in the bottom of your bag.
