Solar has broadened its horizons for 2018 with a new bedchair range.
The Kent tackle company, which built its reputation on stainless bankware, terminal bits and bait, has now launched a flurry of new ‘greenware’ products including beds, chairs, bivvies and luggage.
RRP: £299.99/£399.99 (standard/sleep system) and £329.99/£449.99 (wide/sleep system) | www.solartackle.co.uk
The SP C-Tech bedchair comes in two guises – standard and wide – and is a premium product with plenty of neat features.
First off, the mattress is made of exclusive 3D DuraCore fabric, which beyond the marketing-lingo name, has a texture that has to be felt to be appreciated. It’s an air-pocketed design that really moulds to your body.
The mattress is on the firm side, which we really like. Unlike traditional elasticated mattresses, the base is connected directly to the frame, keeping everything taut and giving the angler a much larger bed area. There’s no sagging, pulling you into the centre of a concave bed.
The frame is aluminium to keep weight down (11.24kg for the standard size) and the legs are powerfully spring loaded to make adjustment very simple, even when leaning over to reach the far legs.
Two twin-pivot hinges, with neat Solar engravings, aid packing down the bed with a sleeping bag attached, while well-designed straps keep everything flat in transit.
Another neat feature is the free Solar Man Bag, which clips onto the bedchair (and all of Solar’s new chairs) to stash items within easy reach.
The SP C-Techs can also be purchased with sleep systems, luxurious five-season sleeping bags with waterproof covers and crash zips.
Solar has also launched a standalone C-Tech sleeping bag, coming in at £124.99.
Both models, without sleep systems, retail for around £300, putting them at the top end of the market, but Solar’s engineering heritage is clearly on display here.
