Carp barrows are brilliant for carting your kit to your swim, but a right pain in the backside for squeezing inside a car.

The solution, it seems, lies in a bit of origami.

 Compact and lightweight

Compact and lightweight

Chub's Outkast Easy Folding Barrow concertinas down into an almost flat-pack barrow, yet regains its full shape very easily.

If you're familiar with Brompton folding bicycles, you'll know the drill.

The front-most section doesn't fold into the unit itself, but is also easily removed and folds flat.

Cleverly, once you remove the handles they clip into plastic retainers on the underside of the chassis, giving you a really compact package.

The downsides? Well, it's not a huge barrow so it is unlikely to be able to carry mountains of gear in one hit. We'll wait for a long-term test before passing judgement on that.

The preview model we had a play with also had a couple of loose screws on the folding mechanism, so we hope it can stand up to regular abuse.

Daiwa offers a folding barrow, too, but this Chub one is about £50 cheaper in the shops and, at about £110, appears to offer genuine value for money.
