UPDATE: Yes, this was our April Fool :)
A new carp reel that can be adjusted from an app and has the ability to power a mobile phone using your own cranking power is set to storm the market.
Carpfeed.com has been given an exclusive look at the high-tech device, which is being hailed as the biggest breakthrough in reel design since folding handles.
The reel has two USB ports, like those found on your laptop or desktop computer, which use the kinetic energy generated by reeling in to power a phone or tablet.
Incredibly, the Chinese-made Flair Loop also promises to allow the angler to:
Adjust gear ratio (and therefore cranking ability) via a phone app
Alter your drag tension remotely via a phone app
Carpfeed has seen a poorly translated poster for the reel, which also promises ‘illumination from cutting-edge LEDs’ and ‘real mock carbon fibre inserts’.
An unnamed source at the manufacturer told Carpfeed via email: “It’s about time a fishing reel had an app. Our app will count how many times you turn handle and we will host a highscore table on our website.”
