A 48-hour session at a Welsh day-ticket water gave Rhys Harrison this personal-best common weighing in at more than 40lb.
The fish, known as Bruno, pulled the scales round to 42lb 4oz at White Springs Fishery near Swansea.
Targeting the Specimen Lake, Rhys opted for an in-form swim. He told Carpfeed.com: “I decided to go in peg 7 as it had been doing quite a few fish in the weeks leading up to my session.
“I put three small Spombs onto a small gravel patch close to an island, then put a pop-up over the top.”
Rhys, from Portskewett in Monmouthshire, added: “I received the bite about 4pm on the first day and it was a new personal best.”
Rhys baited with DNA S7 boilie crumb, Betastim pellets and Red Mist groundbait. He fished a 12mm DNA Milky Malt hookbait over the top.
