Lewis Read’s session went from despair to triumph in half an hour as he banked yet another Welly whacker.
The Gardner product developer acted on a tip off from another member at the Berkshire syndicate venue but lost what felt like a big fish before netting this 44lb mirror.
He said: “I arrived to a very busy Welly on Sunday afternoon at about 4.30pm and elected to fish on the wind after being given a heads up on a fish that showed in Bramble Bay by fellow syndicate member Charlie Hayes.
“As I set up another good ’un sloshed out exactly where he said and I put two rods in that zone and another down in Turtle Corner.
“At 7pm the rod in the corner pulled round and I leant into a really heavy, ponderous fish, but it bumped the woodwork, or something, and I suffered a hook pull.
“At 7.30pm I was just bemoaning the loss to the long-suffering wife on the phone when the MKII German rig was picked up and after a titanic battle had this awesome 44lb mirror.
“She was nailed dead centre of her perfect mouth. Lovely!”
