If anyone can covet a fish for 13 years and then predict the exact moment they’ll catch it, Kev Hewitt can.
That’s exactly what happened at Linear Fisheries as the England international caught Kempy’s Linear to order.
The 48lb 4oz mirror was banked from Manor Farm Lake at almost exactly the time Kev was due to host a live video on Facebook.
He told Carpfeed.com: “James Armstrong [CC Moore’s marketing manager] asked me on Friday to do the live Q&A on Sunday evening. I messaged him saying, let’s go one better and do it with Kempy’s Linear on the bank!”
Swindon-based Kev caught the fish back in 2003 when it was un-named 27-pounder but has been chasing it ever since.
He said: “Cliff Kemp then had it for the first time over 30lb and it became known as Kempy’s Linear. Cliff was actually the guy who took me under his wing and sort of taught me how to fish the linear complex, so there is plenty behind this capture.”
The stunning mirror was one of 19 carp, including fish of 28lb 8oz, 29lb 15oz, 31lb 6oz, Kev caught in three nights from the Car Park swim.
Fishing at just under 100yds, Kev seized on a new south-westerly wind and began catching almost immediately.
“I arrived at 7pm and I put about 4kg of bait out to begin with, and had my first fish at 9pm.
“Not topping up the swim with bait after every fish has definitely been massive for me recently. I’ve been putting more out to begin with and only topping up once the action slows down.
“I was having fish every couple of hours and on average baiting up every 12 hours or so.”
