One of the biggest day-ticket mirrors in the country made a New Year’s Day appearance as part of an incredible haul.
The fish known as Dave weighed in at 54lb and fell to Chris McNeive at Swan Lake on the Bluebell complex in Northamptonshire.
The Manchester angler also caught fish of 32lb, 30lb, 27lb and 21lb during his four-day stay.
“I got down to the lake on Friday,” the 26-year-old told Carpfeed, “I had a 32-pounder on Saturday over a lightly baited area and a 30 on Sunday on a single hookbait chucked at a showing fish.
“I lost one on Sunday then had a 27, Dave at 54lb and a 21-pounder on New Year’s Day.”
Describing the moment he latched into the giant mirror, Chris said: “The bite was a slow pull up to the top which just carried on going straight out once I lifted into it.
“Once I turned it, it just plodded about making the odd run and staying deep and I was unable to even get a glimpse of it for what felt like ages – it probably was on for a good 25 minutes.
“It did try to do me under the nearside trees that go out into the water but I managed to get my waders on and turn it away from them.
“When I finally got its head up I could see the massive shoulders and just thought, ‘that's Dave!’ but quickly tried to put it out of my head as I was already shaking!
“Going into the net it just sort of wallowed on the surface as I struggled to get the net under it due to its large frame.”
Chris was fishing from the west bank of the lake and had most of his fish at 80yds and one at about 50/60yds.
