Craig Newstead went to Holme Fen with a pb of 37lb – and came home after banking five fish over that weight.
The Nottingham angler’s weekend session featured mirrors of 58lb and 53lb 10oz, alongside others of 45lb 8oz and 43lb 10oz.
The 43-year-old’s three-night stay at the booking-only venue featured six fish in total from a spot 80yds out in front of the swim known as Harry’s.
“It was a session of a lifetime,” said Craig, whose first bite produced an hour-long fight at midnight with a 43lb 10oz mirror.
A 27lb common followed at dawn on day two, before a 53lb 10oz mirror arrived two hours later.
At midday on Sunday, Craig, who was fishing the venue for the first time, got the bite from the biggest fish of the trip.
He said: “The right rod began screaming and I lifted into something that felt even heavier than any of the previous catches.
“When I slipped my net under it I couldn’t believe the sheer size of its shoulders. I got him quickly on the scales and he came in at 58lb! I was speechless. Another pb broken, and for the third time in one weekend!”
A 45lb 8oz mirror finished off the haul at 3.30am on the final morning.
Craig used size 6 Korda Krank hooks attached to 12ins of Sufix Black Silt and fed CC Moore Live System and PCF Relish boilies.
