Gareth Oakes proved you don’t have to fish at long range to get action at Linear Fisheries with a five-carp haul.

The member of the armed forces, on leave from operations in Estonia, targeted Hardwick Smith’s at the Oxfordshire day-ticket complex and caught three 20s and a 31lb 5oz mirror.

The Wiltshire-based angler fished just 40yds out in 23ft of water and also banked mirrors of 20lb, 26lb, 28lb 5oz.

He said: “I was fishing 10 wraps out on a baited area of crushed and whole Dynamite Tiger Nut Red-Amo boilies with hemp and sweetcorn.

“I fished match pop-up on hinged stiff rigs with size 4 hooks about an inch off the bottom. I was fishing in light silk weed at 23ft.”

One of Gareth’s five fish, which came during a Monday-to-Friday session, fell to a zig rig.
