Marc Cavaciuti baited heavily at range to bank a brace of beautiful 30lb plus mirrors topped by this stunner.
The Welwyn Garden City rod began his session at Grenville Lake, Cambs, by lacing a clay spot at 135yds with an initial 10kg of chopped, crumbed and whole Sticky Krill freezer baits that had been soaked in cap oil.
Offering pink Signature Squid pop-ups on hinge rigs made with Korda components over the top, he kicked things off by landing a stunner of a fully scaled mirror weighing 30lb 10oz, followed by two smaller fish the following day.
The 35-year-old firefighter kept the best until last, however, as he explained.
“That night I witnessed a huge display in the moonlight, so I went to work with the spod rod, topping the spot up again.
“In the darkness they continued to show, their black heads visible out in the rippled white water.
“At around 4am the shows slowed down, so I again topped up the spot, and at 6am the middle rod was away again, resulting in a really powerful fight at long range.
“The sun hadn’t been up long and as I drew the fish over the net cord I could see it was a really special scaly one. At 36lb 6oz the weight was irrelevant.”
