A caravan park in an Essex seaside town might not seem like the ideal place to catch a stunning carp, but Craig Lewis proved otherwise.
“I caught this beautiful carp on my local caravan site in Clacton-on-Sea, which has a small lake with some really nice original old carp in,” he said.
The 25lb 10oz mirror came after a run of blanks, but Craig didn’t give up.
“The way I approached this little water was to prebait a deep little hole I found in the margin for a week.”
Having baited up daily with whole and chopped CC Moore Live System boilies, Craig fitted in three short sessions around his work commitments but drew a blank each time.
“I stuck with it and kept the bait going in,” he added, “Last Thursday I arrived back to find a few bubbles and put my right-hand rod on the spot.
“Within 15 minutes I had a few liners, then five minutes later the right-hand road bent round and started to smoke line off my reel.
“She gave me a lovely battle and took me all around the lake until I eventually got the under her.
“Looking at the fish I was speechless! I’m chuffed to bits with this one and it’ll definitely stay with me for a long while.”
Craig used a 5ins-long Sufix braided hooklink to a Korda Krank hook attached to a 15mm CC Moore Live System bottom bait topped with fake corn.
