A return to fishing after ill health saw Leon Rohrer bank this 45lb day-ticket mirror.
The 36-year-old was invited out on the bank by a friend and landed the specimen from Quarry Pool on the Baden Hall complex in Staffordshire.
Leon, from Dudley, told Carpfeed that peeling back the weed in the net to reveal the fish was like “unwrapping a Christmas present”.
The warehouse worker explained: “I hadn't been able to go fishing for a while due to ill health but got a phone call from my good friend Michael O’Neill asking if I wanted to fish Baden Hall’s Quarry Pool.
“When I arrived there wasn't much showing, other than a far margin that had some smaller fish topping, but the swim was taken so we decided to get on the wind that was pushing in hard.”
After settling into peg three, Leon found a small gravel patch at 55yds and baited with two Midi Spombs of a prototype 10mm Mainline boilie, plus hemp and popcorn maize.
“All was quiet until first light when I woke to an absolutely melting one-toner,” said Leon.
“After a short, ploddy fight I slipped the net under a big ball of weed. It was like Christmas, unwrapping a present, pulling the weed back to reveal a right brute of a mirror.
“The rest of the session was uneventful but I had my prize and went home a very happy chappy!”
Leon fished combi rigs made from PB Products components with 12mm Mainline Pineapple Juice pop-ups.
