New lake record closing in on 50lb at Cardiff Wharf

One of the biggest carp in Wales has been banked at a new top weight.

Joel Drapkin caught the mirror known as Ebenezer at 48lb 2oz from the Wharf in Cardiff.

The local angler also four other fish including Ellis at 36lb 8oz.

The 35-year-old said: “I spent two nights on the Wharf fishing an area I’d been catching reasonably well from over the last couple of months.

“I fished to a firm silty area at around 70yds, where it drops off slightly from 14ft to 16ft – essentially at the bottom of a gully.

“The first bite off the spot was the biggest fish in the lake, a fish named Ebenezer at 48lb 2oz. This is a new lake record and beat my previous pb by nearly 6lb.”
