More forties on the Isle of Bites

Steve Kitcher is turning the Isle of Wight into the Isle of Bites after yet another huge haul.

The islander caught two forties, a thirty and an upper double during his latest weekend session to take his tally for this year to three forties and two thirties in his last three trips.

The biggest of the lot went 46lb 4oz

This latest haul from the Blackwater syndicate featured mirrors of 46lb 4oz, 40lb 8oz and 31lb 8oz.

Steve said: “I turned up on the Friday afternoon and after having a quick chat with the lads at the pond I knew what swim I needed to be in.”

Having prebaited the area, Steve was confident and almost immediately began receiving line bites, although he had to wait until the following morning for a proper run.

He said: “Just after 9am the first take came in the shape of a new forty for the lake at 40lb 8oz of mean mirror carp.

“This was my 10th UK forty exactly five years to the day since my 1st UK-caught fort at the same weight!”

The 31lb 8oz mirror arrived shortly afterwards and Steve quickly rebaited the area.

“A few hours later,” he said, “I was blown away to catch one of the real bigguns, and complete a brace of winter forties, at 46lb 4oz. I was totally blown away and shocked.

“I sorted myself out and thanked the guys for the pics and an hour or so later was weighing my last fish of the session, a lovely little common at 18lb 7oz.

“To say it was a red-letter day was an understatement. Four fish in February and a brace of forties, let alone the thirty and the smaller common, this will be a day I will remember for a very long time.”
