In a staggering session on Horton Church Lake, Simon Kenny landed five 30s, four 40s and a 52-pounder.
The epic haul of 13 carp came in just three nights and also featured three 20s.
“As I filled the Horton book in before I left it still hadn't sunk in what had just happened,” said Simon, “Truly a session I will never forget or repeat!”
In weight order, the 34-year-old’s tally included:
- Fingers at 52lb 14oz
- Roger the Dodger at 49lb 6oz
- Scar at 48lb 4oz
- Lesters at 45lb 2oz
- Guzzler at 42lb
The Norfolk angler, who is in his first season on the historic Berkshire venue, set up in the Plateau swim which commands shallow water on the end of a south-westerly wind.
Spotting fish to the left of the swim, Simon found an area in 7ft of water with a light covering of silkweed.
A 26-pounder known as Bungle arrived a couple of hours after Simon cast out, followed by a 30lb 10oz mirror called Zippo.
“At about midnight the same rod was off once again,” said the 34-year-old, “The fight was completely different and I knew it was a big fish. Eventually I brought a two-tone mirror over the net cord. At 49lb 6oz I was over the moon with my first Church Lake chunk.”
With the fish still showing, another 30 and a 20 followed, before Lesters at 45lb 2oz arrived the next afternoon.
Another midnight bite produced Scar at 48lb 4oz. “Sleep was hard to come by that night,” said Simon, “I just couldn’t believe what was happening. Horton is no pushover and to be getting this sort of action was unreal.”
Just after dawn a double take produced another 30 and an upper 20, before Guzzler at 42lb was banked around midday.
A 10.30pm bite produced a fish called Trouble at 30lb 6oz and Simon got another take soon after releasing it.
“This was a very heavy fish which bored down long and hard into Horton’s deep margin and as it went in the net I knew it was something special.
“At 52lb 14oz the Fingers beat my long-standing pb by a pound. I was absolutely made up and it was the icing on the cake. One more bite followed early hours of the morning and a 35 12 mirror called gizmo was my 13th and final fish.
“It was truly an incredible session. Fish were showing nearly the whole time and the liners were non-stop.”
