Surface fishing from dawn saw Luke Bowns rewarded with this magnificent Cotswolds linear.
The fish came from a 60-plus-acre water during a social session with a friend and weighed in at 30lb 12oz.
Luke said: “We arrived at dusk on Saturday and slotted into an area of the lake that offered the least angling pressure at the time.
“Apart from a long-overdue catch up, little happened through the night and by 10am we had packed down and were off walking the lake.
“By late afternoon we were down the opposite end of the lake with fish lapping up the sun and huge insect hatches.
“That evening resulted in me losing a fish off the top – barbless hooks, sadly.”
By 6am the next day a light breeze was blowing into Luke’s swim and he sensed a surface opportunity.
“I’m a huge fan of using an oil of sorts when surface fishing and from dawn I was putting out Spombs of little CC Moore salmon-oiled mixers long into the headwind.
“Throughout the day I ended up switching between zigs and controller float depending on what the fish were up to. The result was an upper-double stockie off the top and...well, the pics speak for themselves. One of the most amazing-looking creatures I’ve ever caught."
