Getting in position ahead of a forecast wind was the key for Brad Greening as he banked one of Linear Fisheries’ most prized carp.
The Small Plated weighed in at 45lb 8oz and came during a weekend session on St John’s at the Oxfordshire day-ticket complex.
Korda and Mainline-backed Brad told Carpfeed: “Arriving at the lake on Friday it was very busy, so swim choice was pretty limited.
“I decided to opt for a swim on the point. I had seen a few fish show, but the bulk of the fish were down the other end in the shallows.
“However, St John’s is notorious for reacting very kindly to a south-westerly wind and that’s what was forecast for later that day and heading into the weekend.
“I set up with a nice bed of bait in the main ‘bowl’ area of the lake, hoping I’d be there when the fish turned up on the wind.
“Fortunately, my predictions were right. Friday evening the fish turned up, and it didn’t take long to get a bite.
“Fortunately, among a few stockies, I was graced with the one I really wanted from St John’s, a fish known as the Small Plated at 45lb 8oz.”
Brad fished at 104yds over a large bed of whole and chopped Mainline Link boilies and sweetcorn. He presented a 12m Mainline Pineapple pop-up soaked in White Almond Goo over the top on a Ronnie rig tied with a size 4 Korda Krank and a 7.5ins 25lb Korda Boom hooklink.
