“Just staggering” is how Kieren Delia described the capture of this Linear Fisheries 40-pounder which topped off an incredible four-day session.
The Surrey angler banked two doubles, nine 20s and this 40lb 14oz mirror from Hardwick Smith’s on the Oxfordshire day-ticket complex.
The 40-year-old said: “A truly amazing carp, which had everyone in attendance lost for words.
“Just staggering, a true old Oxford original, and I’m told one of the most sought-after fish on the entire complex.”
Kieren baited heavily with mashed Sticky Manilla boilies to a silty gulley between two bars at 56yds.
“There were high winds, low pressure and a full moon due on the third day of the four-day trip, so the decision was made to introduce 5kg of the Manilla mush mix in one big hit the morning before the moon was due,” said the roofer.
He added: “The spot had all day to settle and that night the expected huge winds hit and whipped the water to froth.
“Nothing happened during the night but the next morning I noticed the water had been coloured up by the storm. An hour after first light the main action started, and during the morning I took mirrors of 23lb 14oz, 24lb and 26lb.
“The spot was topped up with a further 20 Spombs and an hour later a funny bite was hit and the resulting fight produced the epic original mirror at its first time over 40lb.”
