Hardwick original is well-earned first 30

After years of trying, it was a “dream come true” for John Kittle to bag his first UK 30 in the shape of this Hardwick Smith’s original.

The 31lb 1oz common was caught alongside three 20s and a double at the Linear Fisheries day-ticket water in Oxfordshire.

Soldier John, from Gillingham in Kent, said: “After years and years of trying I finally landed my first ever UK 30-pounder.

“I fished a clear, silty plateau that was surrounded by thick weed and filamentous algae 86yds out from peg five.

“Very tight baiting and meticulous rod placement with all three rods on a very tight area resulted in two stunning mirrors before landing the common as part of a double take.

“Original fish from this lake are few and far between, and to catch such a special fish was a dream come true.”

John, whose session lasted 72 hours, fed hemp, corn and Sticky Krill boilies which he’d glugged and soaked in lake water for three days prior to the trip.

“It’s a session I won’t forget for some time,” added the 34-year-old, who used Ronnie rigs and 14mm Sticky Signature Squid hookbaits.
