Richie Leat caught a staggering four 40s and three 20s in a single night.
The 31-year-old had commons of 41lb and 40lb 10oz, plus mirrors of 42lb 4oz and 41lb 10oz, during his “just unbelievable” session at the New Forest Water Park.
The Wiltshire angler has lost count of the number of big fish he’s caught from the water since his winter campaign began in November, but reckons he’s banked “probably 11 40s and countless 30s, maybe 15 to 25” since then.
Richie told Carpfeed: “It’s just unbelievable, I still can’t believe it.
“I didn’t get the rods out till 2pm and had the first two 40s and a 20 on zig rigs, before I reeled all the rods in at about 9pm and put some bait out and fished on the bottom.
“In this country it’s certainly my best-ever session.”
The New Forest Water Park syndicate has produced a string of big fish this winter and Richie believes it’s down to the calibre of angler on the venue.
He said: “The fish are quite ‘shoaly’ on there and when they turn up on you they will eat everything.
“Since it changed from an open syndicate three years ago, when no-one really fished through the winter, we’ve carried on feeding them and feeding them correctly – the right food at the right time.
“There are no bream in the water, so the carp can choose when they eat, but when they do it sparks the lake into life.”
Richie baited heavily with crumbed Dynamite Complex-T and Monster Tiger Nut boilies, matching pellets, hemp and maggots. He covered his mixed with Dynamite Sweet Tiger liquid and Evolution Oils and left it to soak for 24 hours before the session.
Remarkably, it’s the third time Richie has caught the 42lb 4oz Football Lin – off the surface, on a zig rig and now off the bottom!
His zig rigs featured 10lb Drennan Double Strength Fly Leader tied to size 10 Korda Mixa hooks with four maggots presented beneath black or orange foam.
On the bottom, he used multi rigs with five or seven maggots tied to a 4ml piece of cork. He tied the rigs with ESP Tungsten Loaded and size 7 ESP Cryogen hooks.
