A popular Staffordshire day-ticket venue has produced its first 50-pounder.
Nathan Brittle caught the 51lb 4oz mirror from Baden Hall’s Quarry Pool on Saturday evening, the first day of a week-long session.
“I can’t believe it,” the 31-year-old told Carpfeed.
“They let me name the fish, so I called it Fats which was my father Wayne’s nickname and suited it due to the size.
“He passed away 20 years ago in August so it’s sentimental to me and I’m absolutely over the moon that I got to name it.”
The Rotherham angler, who is fishing from peg nine, is still on the bank and landed a 34lb common earlier today [June 11].
He added: “The big mirror came at 8.50pm on Saturday and took around 15 to 20 minutes to get in – it was a good fight.
“It was verified by four other anglers and we weighed it on my new Reuben Heaton scales.”
Well-known fish supplier Mark Simmonds commented on Facebook: "Yet another Simmo super stockie smashing the 50lb barrier. This one was stocked at ounces over 30lb."
Nathan fished to a bay area to the right of his swim in about 3ft-4ft of water. He presented a new Mainline Link pop-up over a bed of matching freebies.
“I still can’t believe it, I’m absolutely buzzing. I’m still here until Saturday so I’m hoping for more.”
