Dying weed the key for winter bite

Targeting a weedy area of the lake resulted in this fine 36lb 2oz mirror for Marc Cavaciuti.

The 34-year-old was fishing a 24-hour session at Grenville Lake, Cambs, and received his only bite after locating signs of carp in the shallower end of the venue.

Mark said: “I headed to an area that was very weedy in summer and climbed the watching tower. All the birdlife was in this quarter of the lake and it just felt good, with the weed hopefully providing some warmth and food for the carp.

“As I climbed down, a big fish silently lifted out behind a group of squabbling coots.

“I located what felt like a good area and quickly had three rigs spread out. The area hadn’t been fished for quite a while so I spodded out 1kg of scalded and chopped Krill boilies.

“The take came in the early hours and stripped a lot of line off the reel. After a long heavy fight, I was rewarded with a fine mirror.”

Mark used a 12mm Sticky Peach and Pepper pop-up fished on a Slip-D pop-up rig.
