Ben Tipney had to take to the boat to net this giant 49lb 8oz mirror from Black Swan Lake at Dinton Pastures.
He hooked it from a clear area among thick weed at the Berkshire venue, and after a protracted fight afloat, bundled it into the net before taking it back to shore. The fish beat his old personal best of 45lb.
Ben said: “With our first child due and a period of no fishing looming, I was determined to nab a couple more nights before the enforced absence!
“The conditions were bang on, and I found some lovely spots which I baited with crushed Sticky Krill boilies, soaked in Pure Krill Liquid and Cap-Oil.
“At 8pm the right-hand rod gave out a single bleep and then dropped back – as I lifted into it I could feel straight away that it was grating through the weed and quickly became solid.
“After donning the life jacket I jumped into the boat. As I got over the fish it came free and as soon as it saw the boat it exploded on the surface!”
“The next 20 minutes were spent with my heart in my mouth watching the huge fish twist and turn in the gin-clear water beneath the boat.
“I was convinced that the line was going to give way, but eventually I managed to bundle the fish into the net along with a huge ball of weed!”
Ben used a multi rig made from ESP components.
