Geoff Gore returned to the bank with a bang as he caught a Bluebell Lakes 50-pounder.
On his first session since October, the Cambridgeshire angler netted the Z Fish from Swan Lake at 53lb 8oz.
Having already caught the day-ticket water’s other 50lb-plus mirror it was a satisfying capture for the 56-year-old.
He told Carpfeed: “At first glance I thought it was Dave, which I had previously caught on my 50th birthday the first time it went over 50lb.
“After weighing and getting the photos done it was to my delight to find I had eventually caught the elusive Z Fish at 53lb 8oz.”
He added: “I haven’t been fishing since last October due to work and family commitments, so this was my first venture out in 2018.”
A quiet opening 24 hours at the Causeway end of the lake saw Geoff move to one of the Dug Out swims and fire out 12ft zigs to various spots.
“At around 3pm, the bobbin on my second rod from the right was dancing and the Delkim was giving those lovely noises that can only mean one thing – fish on!
“The initial run was around 40yds, followed by deep lunges. With a good bend on the rod and a smoothly set clutch I began to gain some line back.
“The battle only lasted about 10 minutes in the open water before the fish made a darting run to a snag bush to the left of the swim. After jabbing the rod under water and applying side pressure she came out and again I was playing her in open water.
“A few minutes passed and she finally surfaced just under the other rods and was engulfed in the landing net.”
