Arezue Omid has " truly fallen in love with fishing" in the last year and has now smashed her UK personal best with this Kent forty.
The Manchester angler banked this 44lb 2oz mirror from Elphicks Fishery during a bait-team social session.
After a five-hour journey to the venue, the 35-year-old was made to wait for the bite in testing conditions.
Arezue, who was fishing with fiancé Dave Wright, told carpfeed.com: “By day two things were really not looking too promising for us as the air pressure was really high and all the fish seemed to be on the surface.
“Remaining optimistic and watching some of the other anglers catch a few stunning fish I patiently waited for my turn.”
It was early morning on day three when Arezue finally got her chance.
She said: “At 5am I got a screaming run on my right-hand rod which made me leap out of my bivvy and strike as the sun was slowly making an appearance.
“As I have only been fishing for a year and my previous pb was only 23lb 8oz I knew that what I had hooked wasn't a small fish.
“Remembering everything I had been taught by my fiancé and taking my time my heart was racing, my palms were getting sweaty and I was so nervous at the fear of losing what could possibly be my only catch. But slowly and patiently I managed to reel this chunk in.
“It was only when I finally saw him in the net that I realised his head was nearly as wide as his body. Wow! This was a big fish for sure and nothing I had ever come close to catching myself.”
Arezue added: “To say I am over the moon is probably an understatement as I cannot believe in such a short period of time I have managed to land so many lovely catches. I have well and truly fallen in love with fishing and absolutely love that every session is so different and you are always guaranteed to experience something unexpected every time you are on the bank.
“I'm counting down the minutes until I'm out again catching another beauty.”
It’s sometimes easy to become jaded by carp fishing, but when you see a catch like this through the eyes of a newcomer it’s enough to put a broad grin on your face. The last quote from Arezue is worth reading again and remembering why we all go fishing.
