A chance visit to a northern day-ticket venue gave Ashley Wilkinson a new personal best.
This chunky 45lb 14oz mirror picked up his hookbait just half an hour after a change of tactics on Arthur’s Lake at Caistor Lakes in Lincolnshire.
The 29-year-old steelworker from Scunthorpe said: “I turned up on the day for a 12-hour session. I wasn’t booked on, but a few mates were going and I gambled on there being space.
“I arrived at the water and was in a not-so-favoured swim.
“I started the session on a snowman setup but reeled in at 1pm and made a pop-up rig with the hookbait about 1.5ins to 2ins off bottom.
“I cast to a cove in the island and on the third attempt felt good depth and a good drop. Within half an hour off she went and I landed a new pb – I was buzzing!”
