David Grout celebrated catching “the king of the lake” from Shallow Pit on the St Ives complex in the shape of the mirror known at Colin at 50lb 7oz.

After fishing four unproductive sessions on the Cambridgeshire venue in April and May, David returned for a second crack at the lake several weeks ago, and hit the jackpot when he landed the new personal best.

“I got the bite at 3am, and after it found a weedbed early on, steady pressure got the fish moving.

“As it approached the net, I was expecting a big ball of weed to appear but instead all I saw was a big pair of lips as the fish went into the net.

Colin is still topping 50lb despite advancing years!

“I couldn't believe the size of it…it was Colin, the king of the lake!” said David, who used Scientific Baits Super Orange pop-ups fished on Mugga QC rigs.
