A crafty baiting campaign saw Danny Holland bag a Rockford 50 after four years of hard work.
The 47-year-old decided to try something different at the big Hampshire pit and it paid off with the capture of “one of the biggest leathers in the country” at 53lb 8oz.
He said: “I started a campaign of baiting six weeks ago in an area not fished a great deal.
“I’ll first introduce Krill boilies and trout pellet and keep this going until the bream, roach and tench clean up the spot a bit. On this occasion, after four weeks and several double-figure bream, the weather had warmed up a bit so – as I normally do – I stopped putting out pellet.
“Using just the Krill boilies I hoped the bream would move off and leave the bigger baits for the carp.
“After two weeks of just boilies I lost my first carp due to a cut off, but at least it was carp action.
“On returning the following week I got the rods and bait back out, and 24 hours into my session at first light I got a one-toner.
“After a short fight one of the biggest leathers in the country was finally mine after four years of trying.”
Danny, who also had a 22-pounder during his four-night stay, used a bottom-bait stiff rig and fished over 10kg of Sticky Krill boilies.
