Charitable karma serves up 74lb brace

A charitable angler who donated £500 for a session at one of Kevin Nash’s lakes had his generosity rewarded with a quick-fire brace of fish totalling 76lb 4oz.

Jon Eadon won a trip to Nash’s Church Lake to help fund the fight against koi herpes virus (KHV) and ended up with a 40lb 2oz common and a 36lb 2oz mirror just 15 minutes apart.

He told Carpfeed: “It started off with an auction which I completely missed it, but then I think somebody pulled out and they offered it as a ‘buy it now’ and I snapped it up!”

The Hornchurch angler was joined by Nash’s Alan Blair and Oli Davies, plus three other auction winners, for the two-day session at the Essex venue.

Jon said: “The night before I got the bites my swim was a hive of activity. The fish were fizzing and bubbling and crashing out over marker sticks that we’d put out, so I was actually surprised it took so long to get a bite.

“Conditions took a turn for the worse overnight but I was in a little bay that was a bit sheltered, which I think helped.”

The mirror was the first fish to arrive, followed almost immediately by the fish known as the Baby Common.

“The first bite came at 7am and I was still admiring it in the net – I hadn’t even unhooked it – when the other rod tore off, so it was a proper brace,” said Jon.

“Luckily enough we had Oli, who is an absolute legend behind the camera, on hand to do the pics. It was the fish of a lifetime and the photos of a lifetime.

“Oli and Alan were brilliant in giving us every bit of knowledge they could to help us catch.”

CARPFEED VERDICT

It’s amazing how often the winners of Nash’s charity auctions go on to catch fish of a lifetime. Church and Copse certainly contain enough fish to make dreams come true, and it’s fitting that Jon’s generosity was rewarded so handsomely. Donations to Nash’s fight against KHV can be made here
