With the World Championships less than a month away, Carp Team England have announced their squad.
Travelling to Lake Sava in Serbia will be three starting pairs – Billy Flowers and Jamie Londors; Harry Charrington and Karl Pitcher; and Wayne Mansford and Ryan Need.
Graham Mabey and Neil Rivers will be substitutes, while Jamie takes the captain’s armband.
Due to time and funding constraints, England have been unable to visit the venue for a practice.
Asked about notable absentees, team manager Rob Hughes told Carpfeed Mark Bartlett is unavailable for this event and Tom Maker and Chris Holmes retired after last year’s Home Nations event.
This will be the 20th FIPSed World Championships and will be held on the Lake Sava rowing course in Belgrade between October 3 and 6.
England, who won the event in 2015, are currently ranked fourth in the world, but expect a tough challenge.
Rob said: “It’s not going to be easy for us as due to funding and time constraints we have not been able to visit the competition venue for a practice.
“Furthermore we don’t know massive amounts about the venue other than it is a fairly low-stock small-fish venue but we but have had eyes on it, have a solid game plan, and have been extensively practising our target tactics back at home.
“We’re up against it a little this year and any medal will be a massive achievement.”
