Carp raffle aims to raise funds for angler who fell from tree

A raffle has been launched to help an angler who was left paralysed after falling from a tree at his syndicate lake.

Justin Carter was fish spotting at Northey Park near Peterborough in March when a branch gave way.

Almost six months on, the experienced carper is paralysed from the waist down but is slowly returning to the sport he loves. He is currently able to enjoy day sessions on the bank with the help of a friend.

However, after spending £30,000 making his home more wheelchair friendly, Justin now faces a further £6,000 bill to install an electric platform at his front door.

Friends, led by Wellingborough Lakes boss Chris Berry, are determined to help lessen the financial burden and have launched a fundraising drive which has gained support from throughout the fishing industry.

Chris told Carpfeed: “JC still can’t get into his house by himself and a platform that lifts him in his wheelchair up to the right height to get in the front door is on order, so I thought us carpers should help him in his time of need in any way we can towards this £6,000 electric platform.”

Fundraising matches at Wellingborough and Delapre Lakes are planned for the last weekend in September, but Chris was determined to involve anglers from across the country so he created a raffle.

A full list of prizes can be seen below and tickets cost just £2 each.

Buyers should donate via PayPal gift to raffle@wellingboroughlakes.com. Entrants must stipulate how many tickets they want and leave their full name and mobile number in order to receive their ticket numbers.

Justin himself will draw the winning numbers on September 29.
