The giant mirror Captain Jack has been caught again, slightly down in weight.
Dave Smedley banked the fish from Meadows Lake at Holme Fen at 67lb 4oz, just below the fish’s potential record-breaking top weight of 68lb-plus.
Dave is no stranger to the Cambridgeshire venue, having taken a huge haul from the open-access water almost exactly a year ago.
On that occasion he managed five forties and two fifties, and this time round he caught mirrors of 36lb 4oz, 40lb 4oz and the lake’s biggest resident.
“I’m absolutely blown away,” said Dave, who admitted his week-long session had been “tough going”.
The 49-year-old Brit is based in France where he works as a bailiff at the Dream Lakes holiday carping complex.
All of Dave’s fish fell to Mainline Salty Squid pop-ups over Mainline Power Hemp.
Holme Fen contains two lakes – Meadows, which boasts an incredible stock including two 60-pounders, an estimated 20 fifties and 50 or 60 forties, and Poachers Pool. Tickets for sessions can be purchased in advance online, although Meadows is already fully booked for the whole of 2018.
