The Italian water that’s making waves in the European carp scene has produced an 83lb common to a British angler.
Darren Verdi-Ashton arrived at Parco Del Brenta two days later than his mates, but caught up on the action in style.
The lake, in the northern Italian region of Padua, was the setting for the recent RidgeMonkey video in which Dan Hawkes caught 100 carp in a week and has been fished by many top Brits.
Darren’s prize was the incredible Spanish Common at 83lb 8oz, which came as part of a 12-fish hit from peg 14.
He said: “I missed the first two nights of a seven-night session with three mates due to having to go a 50th birthday party on the Saturday.
“Arriving Monday afternoon I started catching on Tuesday, ending up with 14 runs from carp and 12 fish landed including fish of 58lb, 55lb, 53lb, 49lb and two at 39lb 12oz!
“The Spanish Common at 83lb 8oz came at sunset on Wednesday and was landed into darkness.”
Darren fished a 22ft-deep spot off a submerged road at 88yds and used 12mm Mainline Cell wafters in PVA bags.
