Craig McEvoy bagged a brace of 50-pounders to take his tally of 50s to four since March.
Returning to the Avenue in Shropshire after its summer spawning closure, Craig caught Captain Scarlet at 54lb 8oz and Breezeblock at 50lb 2oz.
He backed up the big pair with other fish of 36lb 8oz and 28lb 3oz.
“It was an epic session,” said Craig, who used a secret rig he calls the ‘twisted combi’ with an interesting hookbait.
He said: “A little edge I employed was fishing half a Dynamite Complex T wafter and half a Dynamite Tigernut wafter pushed together with a sliver of Complex T paste between.
“It sure worked a treat!”
Craig’s first bite of the two-night trip was the biggest, Captain Scarlet at 54lb 8oz just four hours into the session.
After a quiet spell, a single hookbait cast to a showing fish produced a 28lb 3oz mirror. All the while, Craig was baiting a spot he did not intend to fish until the last day.
That spot produced a 36lb 8oz fish within two hours and then, at 1.45pm, another bite which led to what Craig called an “epic battle”.
He added: “It was a really strange fight with what felt like the fish constantly hitting the line with its tail.
“After 25 minutes I netted my second 50 of the session in the form of Breezeblock – another one off the A-Team list!”
