The biggest living carp in Devon has been caught at 53lb 2oz.
Steve Elsbury banked the mirror known as Silver Back from Anglers Paradise at 53lb 2oz.
It’s the largest carp ever caught at the 30-lake holiday venue and came from the site’s Kracking Carp Lake.
Zenia Drury-Gregorek, daughter of Anglers Paradise founder Zyg Gregorek, said: “We’ve been waiting for this day, and it’s finally here!
“Steve Elsbury, 35, from Devon, has caught a 53lb 2oz mirror known as Silver Back from peg one, which is not only the new ‘living’ Devon county carp record but is also the biggest ever carp to have been caught in history at Anglers Paradise!”
Steve used a CR Baits CR1 hookbait.
The biggest reported carp previously caught in Devon was a 54lb-plus fish from Emperor Lakes, but that specimen in no longer alive.
Writing on Facebook about the capture of Silver Back, Emperor boss David Lidstone said: “Very well done to the management, the owners and most of all to the captor.
“A really significant fish for the south west and a triumph for carp fishing here in the region. Good things happen to good people. Chuffed for you all.”
