Big scaly day-ticket mirror at last knockings

Tyron Hodgson was on the verge of packing up when this 37lb 4oz scaly mirror picked up his hookbait.

The fish – a new personal best by 12lb – came during a 24-hours session on Bridge Pool at the Baden Hall day-ticket complex in Staffordshire.

Tyron told Carpfeed: “I arrived late, just half an hour before the gates closed, and managed to get my rods out after a good 45 minutes of finding spots in the weed.

“I managed to find a nice clear spot three rod lengths out on the edge of a weedbed and flicked my rod out with a PVA mesh bag of 10mm boilies. I catapulted about 30 more boilies over the spot.

“I was woken at about 4am to a screamer but was devastated to lose the fish in heavy weed.

“I flicked the rod back out with no more bait and didn’t put anything out for the rest of the session.

“I was just about to pack my things away when the next moment my alarm screams off again. I was straight on to it and as soon as I hooked it I knew it was a big fish.

“It swam into the weed and I thought I’d lost it after reeling in a load of weed and what felt like a dead weight, but I was soon able to see a tale slap in the weed.

“After removing the weed I saw these big scales – what a beauty she was! At 37lb 4oz it smashed my UK pb of 25lb. I’m absolutely over the moon – a fish of a lifetime!”
