Kevin Pickford celebrated in the rain and sleet after catching the Party Fish at 36lb 6oz from Horseshoe Lake in Gloucestershire.
Setting up in Winter Bay at the famous Carp Society venue following a heavy downpour, the venue regular was keen to target the main bowl of the lake, where fish had been showing regularly.
Kevin said: “I had a blank first night fishing on the bottom, so on the Friday with fish still showing over my spots, I decided to change tactics.
“I knew the spots where about 9ft to 10ft deep, so I hatched a plan using zigs, trying different heights.
“After catching a smaller mirror of 18lb, I knew I was onto the right tactic. I recast and introduced a bit of sloppy spod mix over the top – 15 minutes later it was away again.
”After a very powerful battle, I eventually got the fish in with the help of my good friend Dean Stockham. We both knew it was a unit and the scales soon revealed I had a new personal best.”
The big Horseshoe mirror fell to a zig rig fished under a spod mix of crumbed West Country Baits boilies and glug.
“I would really like to thank the Carp Society for creating such a lovely and wonderful place to fish,” Kevin added.
