Another big tackle shop bought by Angling Direct

A well-known Lancashire tackle shop has become the 22nd branch of Angling Direct.

Ted Carter Fishing Tackle in Preston has been bought for £125,000 plus the value of its current stock.

The shop, which opened in the 1960s, will change its name to Angling Direct Preston.

Ted Carter MD Nick Carter said: “We are delighted that a well-established business, with similar values to ours, will be taking over Ted Carter.”

The takeover continues AD’s acquisitions of famous tackle shops, including Fosters of Birmingham, Trev’s of Wilmslow and North West Angling Centre.

In the year to January, Angling Direct took £30.2m in sales and made £1m in pre-tax profit.

Commenting on this latest buyout, CEO Darren Bailey said: “We expect the acquisition will be earnings enhancing from day one and validates Angling Direct’s long-term strategy – to consolidate the fishing-tackle market whilst expanding our business through acquisition into new areas of the country with a strong angling demographic.”
