Having pre-baited since December, Dennis Jones got the park-lake fish he wanted in the shape of this 40lb 2oz common.
The fish came on Saturday [Feb 9] during a wet and windy session at Ditchling Country Park in East Sussex in which the 28-year-old was the only angler on the venue.
“I’ve been fishing Ditchling for the last year on and off, and heavy pre-baiting trying to target a fish called the Ditchling Common,” said the bricklayer.
“I started fishing the lake last winter and have managed more than 20 takes, catching carp up to 29lb 14oz, with most of them ranging between 12lb and 21lb.”
Dennis decided to start a heavy prebaiting campaign just before Christmas, using Nash 4G Squid boilies and maize.
He said: “When I arrived at the lake I was the only person there. The wind was strong and the rain was coming down hard.
“I setup the rods and with my waders on I placed the rig on a gravel spot off the island with about 30 to 40 baits over the top.
“At 9.30am the rod was away and the fish put up a great fight. Once I’d landed it I knew it was the big one – I was so glad all the hard work had paid off.”
