Tom Loraine caught was an ounce away from catching his second 40 in a matter of months, but it didn’t matter one bit.
The 34-year-old caught this 39lb 15oz common in the snow at the Essex Manor, having banked a mirror known as the Anchor 45lb 8oz earlier in the winter.
Tom said: “At an ounce under 40lb to say I'm made up is an understatement.
“It's been a rough and tough winter but to cap it off with my biggest snow carp to date has made it all worthwhile!
“Starting the winter off with the Anchor at 45lb 8oz and then to trip this one up a day before spring finally arrived has made it a very memorable winter for me.”
Talking tactics, Tom added: “Three rods were fanned out over the swim, which used to have great winter form, fishing the bottom of the marginal shelf which was getting battered by those 30mph easterly gusts.”
Tom baited with 3kg of Sticky Krill boilies in 16mm and 12mm sizes, and used hinged stiff rigs made with 25lb Korda Mouth Trap and Thinking Anglers Tungskin with size 4 Korda Chod hooks.
His hookbaits were Sticky Krill White Ones pop-ups.
