Sandhurst’s reputation as one of the best winter day-ticket waters has been underlined by a series of recent catches.
Topping the lot is Steve Withers’ 42lb common, which fell alongside a 27lb 12oz mirror during a 72-hour birthday social session.
The fibreglass finisher from Andover targeted a silty gulley at the Hampshire day-ticket lake.
He said: “Knowing the lake would be difficult – the week before it had a lid of ice on it – I found a nice silt gulley at 80 yards and baited with boilies and maggots.
“With no action Thursday and Friday night I decided to make it happen by putting 20 Spombs of crumbed and chopped Manilla boilies on the spot to encourage a bite.
“Saturday evening at around 6pm I had my first take from a 27lb mirror. I then cast back out and put out a further five Spombs.
“At 12.30am I had another screaming take which ended in a 45-minute battle with a 42lb common in the net. What an amazing session for that time of year!”
Also at Sandhurst, Adam Luck had five fish to 32lb 12oz fishing 76 yards out from the Pipe swim just beyond a weedbed.
His haul, which also included mirrors of 24lb and 26lb, came on CC Moore Citrus Zest pop-ups over maggots, corn, pellets and CC Moore Live System boilies.
Another angler to get among the Sandhurst specimens was Paul Eaton who had a trio of commons to 32lb 12oz on white CC Moore Pacific Tuna pop-ups.
Sandhurst has been on great form recently and has a history of producing winter carp. This 14-acre gravel pit, which contains more than 400 carp, averages 4ft to 6ft deep and can produce fish in even the coldest temperatures. For venue latest call 07766416223
