Andrew Swift’s first-ever trip to Baden Hall produced this 43lb mirror on a 1ft zig rig.
The 31-year-old from Wigan caught the new personal best during a 48-hour session on Quarry Pool at the Staffordshire day-ticket site.
The plasterer told Carpfeed: “I fished peg one as there was a strong wind blowing down to the island on my right.
“I started off fishing in open water on 5ft zigs with black foam, but after the first night drew a blank I decided in the afternoon to get on the wind.
“I changed to a 1ft zig with yellow foam after finding depths of 4ft just off the island.
“The bite was violent and after a 25-minute fight I landed the fish .I then realised it hadn't dropped my lead so I was very lucky.”
