A weekend trip with his three-year-old son produced a dozen fish including three over 35lb for Scott Clark.
The Suffolk angler caught over 200lb of fish in the 48-hour session at Fryerning Main Lake in Essex, including the Mommon at 44lb 6oz, the Pretty One at 35lb 4oz and Luke’s Common at 37lb 8oz.
“I was totally blown away with what had happened and couldn’t have wished for a better weekend with my son,” said Scott, who was fishing the Millstone swim at the syndicate venue.
The action began just two hours after Scott and young Tayler started fishing, having bought 5kg of the new Mainline Link from the on-site shop.
“I thought I’d give it a try,” said Scott, who was using the bait for the first time. Having put 10 catapults of the boilies around each rod, Scott’s first two bites on Friday produced a small common and mirror.
A lost fish at 5.30am on Saturday didn’t dampen the mood and Scott got another chance a couple of hours later.
He said: “After a 20-minute battle Tayler netted a stunning mirror, the Pretty One at 35lb 4oz. It was one of the target fish I was after – happy days!”
Scott continued to catapult bait around his rods and two 20-pounders followed before the biggest fish of the trip slipped up.
“Two beeps and it tore off,” said Scott. “Instantly, I knew I was into something big. After a half-hour battle my heart was in my mouth as Tayler spotted the huge common break the surface. Shaking, I couldn’t believe what I had seen – I was playing one of the lake’s big commons.
“Tayler, now full of confidence, netted the fish perfectly. ‘We’ve done it!’ a new pb common!”
Twenty minutes after getting the rod back out he bagged the elusive Luke’s Common at 37lb 8oz.
Scott fished blowback bottom-bait rigs with size 4 Korda Krank hooks and 20lb N-Trap Soft hooklinks.
