Meadows Lake at Holme Fen in Cambridgeshire has repeatedly hit the headlines for its outrageous hauls of big fish - but just how many massive carp does it hold?
As of September 2018, the booking-only lake (which can be fished by anyone for £40 for 24 hours) contains a mindblowing five different 60-pounders.
All the fish are of the Israeli Dor-70 strain, imported into this country at between 10lb and 41lb. For more info on the history of the stock, have a look at our guide.
Starting with the familiar Captain Jack, which might just become an official British record, let’s take a look at the venue’s five 60s…
1) CAPTAIN JACK
The big daddy of Meadows Lake! Captain Jack was first caught at 41lb in August 2014. He (and it is a ‘he’) has grown and grown ever since.
Top weight: 69lb 10oz
2) JAKEY BOY
Caught in the same week as Captain Jack in September 2018, this mirror is racing up the leaderboard at 65lb 3oz.
It previously came out on July 28, 2017, at 60lb 2oz.
Top weight: 65lb 3oz
Named after its post-60lb captor Lee Marshall, this big mirror hit the bank at over that weight in May this year.
Top weight: 64lb 2oz
4) THE ANT
In June, Ant Fowell caught this mirror at exactly 62lb and it was thus christened the Ant.
Top weight: 62lb
5) UN-NAMED MIRROR
Yet to be given a nickname, though we suspect ‘the Un-named’ might stick, this giant was caught at over 60lb by an angler called Ross in April 2018.
Top weight: 61lb 15oz
The rest of the stock?
Venue boss Martin Dawson told Carpfeed: “I would estimate there are around 30 others at 50lb-plus, several of which are 58lb-59lb, and that approximately half the stock is over 40lb.”
