How to feature find with different leads

How to feature find with different leads

If you only use one type of lead to find features you could be missing out on a world of underwater opportunities, says Nick Burrage

Using the right lead for feature finding can pay big time when looking for the right rig presentation.

Something I found out years ago was to use two different-sized leads over the same spot. Let me explain...

A long time ago a friend told me about a gravel spot he found in a swim. But leading around with my fishing rod with my normal 2oz lead I couldn’t for the life of me find it!

It turned out my friend used a 3.5oz lead and was cutting through the fine top silt dragging across the gravel underneath, and I was sliding across the fine silt.

Once I discovered what was going on, I started to understand what presentation I needed and had a massive edge over others when feature finding.

If you normally feature find with a heavy lead, go over the same spot with a 1.5 or a 2oz lead, it may surprise you and you might find something you didn't know was there!”
