“I don’t worry about it at all.
“Currently I am using large mesh bags that are tied to the eye of the lead-clip swivel and now the water has got cold I do sometimes wind in a little ‘nub’ of PVA, but I don’t feel it is an issue.
“The PVA mesh I use is one of the fastest melting around but I think you have to be realistic and accept that a really tight knot might not completely disappear in cold water.
“It’s worth pointing out that carp are not repelled by PVA, I and many others have caught lots that have taken the bait immediately after casting, while the bag was still melting.
“It’s also worth bearing in mind that because the knot is the last part of the bag to go, we do not want that anywhere near the hook.
“The hardened, solidified lump could cause problems with hooking the fish if it is actually on the hook and for that reason, if you are hooking on a mesh bag, never place the hook under or through the knot.”
